Deacon John and the Ivories

Deacon John does it all. The veteran New Orleans bandleader plays weddings, birthdays, proms, debutante parties. He holds his own at Jazz Fest and at carnival balls. He'll play 1950s R&B, rock, jazz, gospel, soul and disco — whatever the people want to hear. But when it's up to him, he chooses the blues. Deacon John sings songs for half a century, in the city that lives with the benign conceit that this is where all American music was born.

“Freddie is that raw, what-you-see-is-what-you-get blues artist. You're getting all the emotions of a human being. And they're not just playing it. It's not an act. They lived it. You couldn't script what came out of these people. It was real. And Freddie is the last link of that music left in New Orleans. He's it.” -Gary Rouzan

"This is a band for the ages. Those who can cover Smiley Lewis and Lee Dorsey then turn around to write the irresistible “Let the Money Drop” and “Boom Boom” are on the road to world and 13th Ward domination both. So sharpen up the oyster knives, check your spinach and head for the danger zone. Popeye is waiting."  -- Bill Bentley,  The Morton Report

Germaine Bazzle and The Peter Harris Trio

Before she opens her mouth to sing, there is something queenly about Germaine Bazzle. It's there when she's offstage, taking a break, sitting emphatically alone at the far end of a bar and drinking coffee. It's there when she's at home in the 7th Ward, recumbent on a taut Victorian sofa. It's there when she's teaching music appreciation at Xavier Prep, trying to drum operatic scores into the minds of adolescent girls. Widely considered one of the best jazz singers this city has ever produced, Bazzle has never received commensurate acclaim. In fact, her career has been one of remarkably low visibility: no recordings, no tours, no national press.
